Colette "Coco" Lucienne Dilara Konar lit up the room with her abundant energy and spirit. She was always up for an impromptu prank, skit, dance, or improvisation. Her amazing being shined through her personality, physical beauty and mental brilliance.
The flip side was a 17-year-old girl who was drawn to the underdogs of the world––those who suffered and faced injustices in society. At four or five she could be found watching videos about Turkish orphans in Bulgaria. She was drawn to their pain and couldn’t make sense of why they were left to live in such suffering. When visiting her father in Turkey, she witnessed Syrian refugees living in tents and begging on the streets, which deeply affected her. As a young teen she started watching the show, This is Life with Lisa Ling, and was fascinated with how the show uncovered the stories of the underbelly of society --- the strange, the unwanted, the misfits. Her adventurous soul smiled at the idea of being a global investigative journalist. She gravitated to people, places and things that had an authentic story to tell––friends that had experiences of pain and loss, places that were well worn with life and showed their scars.
She is and will always be a guiding angel, especially to her mother and sister. Her family wishes to transform the pain and suffering Coco felt and experienced, and channel it for good.
