Dear family and friends,
As you have likely seen, the situation in Afghanistan is extremely turbulent at the moment. It doesn’t take more than opening any news website or turning on the TV to get an idea of the horror and tragedy that thousands of men, women, and children are going through.
We understand that some of you have a connection with the people of Afghanistan and feel a mix of complicated emotions about this situation. We are right there with you. You may know that Charlie served in Afghanistan and quickly grew to love the country, culture, and people. He made many deep friendships with the great, life-loving people that now fear for their safety and that of their families.
We were thrilled to learn that some of these friends and their families have succeeded in escaping the country and are now in much safer places. It is painful to know, however, that many more are still trapped in the country, either struggling through enormous crowds to enter Kabul airport or hiding in their homes as the Taliban go door-to-door looking for anyone who has helped the United States or its allies. Even those that manage to escape still have a tough road ahead and are in great need of help.
For this reason, we are proud to support the International Rescue Committee (IRC), a non-governmental organization whose mission is to “help people whose lives and livelihoods are shattered by conflict and disaster to survive, recover and gain control of their future.” Founded in 1933, the IRC has received the highest possible ratings from Charity Navigator (4 stars) and Charity Watch (A rating), two organizations that focus on financial transparency, accountability and efficacy. We are honored to support this worthy organization that can do an enormous amount of good in helping the people of Afghanistan. For more information on the IRC and how this fund will help the people of Afghanistan, click here.
We very much look forward to starting our married life with all of you, and we are thankful every day to be able to celebrate with such a wonderful group of people.
Sincerely,
Tina & Charlie
