When the earthquake hit Turkey and Syria in the early hours of February 6 — leaving hundreds of thousands without basic necessities and shelter — Syria had just entered its thirteenth year of conflict and instability.
For more than a decade Syrian society has been torn apart by brutal violence, creating one of the largest humanitarian crises of the 21st century. Even before the tragic earthquake, the vast majority of Syrians lived in poverty, unable to meet their basic needs such as health care or clean water.
With more than 1,000 staff inside Syria, the IRC works tirelessly to provide life-saving health care, protection and tailored support to the communities we serve.
We’ve ramped our existing programming in Syria to provide earthquake-affected communities with food support, medical treatment, and emergency supplies.
But we need your help as we continue to overcome the challenges of delivering humanitarian aid to people in hard-to-reach areas of northwest Syria. Your generous gift will help the IRC sustain our work helping families living in crisis — in Syria, Turkey, and throughout the world.
