New York Times Communities Fund

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) helps people whose lives have been shattered by conflict and disaster to survive, recover and rebuild.

We work in over 50 crisis-affected countries. We also help refugees and other vulnerable people integrate into their new communities across dozens of cities in Europe and the Americas.

The IRC provides health care, helps children learn, and empowers individuals and communities to become self-reliant, always with a focus on the unique needs of women and girls.

In 2022, the IRC and our partners reached over 32.9 million people in countries affected by crisis. As part of this work, we:

  • Provided 8,013,515 primary health care consultations
  • Treated 222,278 children under 5 for severe acute malnutrition
  • Built or rehabilitated water supplies serving 3,490,159 people
  • Provided counseling to 43,814 women survivors of gender-based violence
  • ... among other assistance provided around the world last year

The IRC is proud to have resettled over 400,000 refugees into the United States since World War II.

The New York Times Communities Fund x IRC

Formerly known as The Neediest Cases Fund, The New York Times Communities Fund supports local, national and global nonprofits that help people improve their circumstances and lead more enriching lives.

The IRC has been a beneficiary of The Communities Fund since 2016. Meaningful support from The Fund has helped the IRC to deliver impactful services for refugees and other vulnerable populations in the U.S. and around the world.

Over the past 7 years, The Fund has supported a wide range of programs & services that have had significant impact for the IRC’s clients – from life-saving health care services in Bangladesh and Jordan; to COVID-19 vaccine administration in Uganda; to youth education and social-emotional learning programs in Seattle; to integration and legal services for recent Afghan arrivals in New York; and so many more.

This year, the generous funds from the 2023-24 Communities Fund campaign will help support the IRC’s work in the areas of child survival around the world and resettlement in the US.

By making a donation here, you will be supporting our work to help families to survive, recover and rebuild their lives in more than 50 countries worldwide. Your gift allows us to deliver comprehensive help to people affected by humanitarian crises and will be used where and when most needed. And, when combined with those of other donors, your gift becomes a powerful means to support our vital work, including education, health care, emergency support and job training for refugee families worldwide.
